Water hyacinth<\/strong>, an invasive aquatic plant, poses significant problems for waterways, including obstructing navigation, disrupting ecosystems, and impacting human activities like fishing and recreation.<\/p>\n Water Hyacinth<\/strong> has caused major disruptions to a number of ecosystems and also to human communities. Environmental problems associated with the water hyacinth<\/strong> are most prominent in warm areas where the weed grows throughout the year and develops into dense large, free-floating, monospecific islands or mats which compete with other aquatic species for light, nutrients and oxygen.<\/p>\n The invasive water hyacinth has become a formidable challenge on Nigeria inland waterways, causing delays, increasing operational risks, and necessitating frequent maintenance for boat operators.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n At SWAADO<\/strong>, we have embarked on a project called Water Hyacinth Control Project<\/strong> where we are harvesting it and converting it to other resources such as: Biofuel (including bioethanol and Biogas) and fiber for making handcraft (such as Purse, Table mats, Ladies hand bags, Official folders, Laundry baskets, Laptop Bags, Tiffin Bags, Bottle carrier etc.).\u00a0 Water hyacinth<\/strong> ferments rapidly due to its high water content and can supply biomass for biogas production.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This project empowers the local waterfront communities whose women and youths will source and harvest the water hyacinth<\/strong> from the surrounding waters for a fee and all resources from the water hyacinth<\/strong> will be made available to the locals at a very affordable cost. This project is climate change compliant as the use of biofuels contribute to the reduction of carbon emission.<\/p>\n You can support us in this project by donating towards it.
